This article describes how to add a domain that you have bought externally, and how to connect the domain to a website on Templ.
Step 1: Login to your Templ Panel and navigate to the Domain list.
Step 2: Enter the name of your domain that you own, i.e yourdomainname.com
Do not enter http:// or https:// - You can use www if you want to (it's optional).
External name servers: You can use this if you need to manage your domain / DNS on your own, in most cases this won't apply.
Leave the box unchecked if you want to simply point your domain to Templ via your domain registrar using name servers.
DISCLAIMER NOTICE: Updating your name servers according to this guide will change everything for your domain, including any email or other things associated with the domain. If you are not sure what it means to change name servers, please contact us instead and we will help you.
If you have existing DNS settings related to your domain, you should add the same settings here on Templ using our DNS manager, before changing name servers.
After you have added your domain, you need to point your domain to Templ
Before you update your name servers, you should start by updating your domains "A-Record" and point it to your Templ server IP. The server IP can be found on the Website details page in the Templ Control Panel.
After you have updated the A-Records for your domain, the next step is to point the existing domain to your Templ hosting server. You have to change your domain’s name servers (NS) to the proper Templ name servers, which you can find in your domain list or after you click the "Continue" button in the screenshot above.
The Templ name servers typically looks like this:
xx-cloud-x1.googledomains.com
xx-cloud-x2.googledomains.com
xx-cloud-x3.googledomains.com
xx-cloud-x4.googledomains.com
Note: These are just examples, please use the actual name servers from your domain details.
After updating your name servers, allow 1 to 8 hours for other networks to access information for .com and .net domain names, and allow 24 to 48 hours for other networks to access information for all other domain extensions.
Assign the domain to your website
After you have added your domain and updated the Name servers, go back to your website details and click Edit, then under domain, choose the domain you just added and scroll down and click Continue.
That's it, now check so that your domain is working correctly.
