Before you import a website, please be aware that the current website will be overwritten, so you may want to create a backup first in case you want to restore your website later on.

Currently there are 2 file types that can be imported:

1. How to import a Duplicator Archive file (website)

Preparing your Duplicator archive file is a simple task, please follow steps 1 to 8 from this guide to get your archive link that we will use in the import process.

Once you have your Archive link, open up the Templ Panel and navigate to Websites in the left panel and click on the website you wish to import your new website file to, and then click the Import menu.

Change Type of File to Duplicator and then paste your Duplicator archive link in the URL field and click Continue.

Note: It must be direct download link, download links from Dropbox, Google Drive etc won't work.

After you click Continue, the import progress will begin. The time it takes to finish depends on how big your website is. Please be patient as the process may take several minutes to complete.

When the import has finished, click Continue to go back to your website details, and click on the Homepage button to make sure your website has been imported to Templ correctly.

2. How to import a Templ Backup file (website)

Importing a Templ backup file is simple and works with both local backups and remote backups

Step 1 - Get the download link to your backup file
In the Templ Panel, click Backups in the left panel and then choose your website.

Choose a local backup or a remote backup that you want to import and click Generate link.

Step 2 - Copy the download link to your backup file
Right-click on the backup link and choose "Copy link address" as shown below:

Once you have your Templ backup link, open up the Templ Panel and navigate to Websites in the left panel and click on the website you wish to import your new website file to, and then click the Import button.

Change Type of File to Templ Backup and then paste your Templ Backup link in the URL field and click Continue.

After you click Continue, the import progress will begin. The time it takes to finish depends on how big your website is. Please be patient as the process may take several minutes to complete.

When the import has finished, click Continue to go back to your website details, and click on the Homepage button to make sure your website has been imported to Templ correctly.

3. How to import a file that you have locally on your computer (Duplicator Archive File or Templ.io Backup file)

Step 1 - Upload your file to your Templ website.

Open the SFTP/FTP client of your choice and upload the file to your Templ website, for example to /home/user_xxxx/

See our guide on how to connect to your site using SFTP: https://help.templ.io/en/articles/2506402-enable-sftp-ssh-password-connect-to-your-site

Step 2 - Import your uploaded file to website.

Open up the Templ Panel and navigate to Websites in the left panel and click on the website you wish to import your new website file to, and then click the Import button.

Change Type of File to Templ Backup or Duplicator, depending on what you are importing and then write file:/// followed by the path to your file, for example: file:///home/user_3599/my_templ_backup.tgz in the URL field and click Continue.

After you click Continue, the import progress will begin. The time it takes to finish depends on how big your website is. Please be patient as the process may take several minutes to complete.

When the import has finished, click Continue to go back to your website details, and click on the Homepage button to make sure your website has been imported to Templ correctly.
